This article explains how one may upload different types of media files using the WYSIWYG editor.

Prerequisites
- You have to be logged in
- You have to have the appropriated rights to upload files, contact your administrator in this case
Upload media
- Create a new page or edit an existing one in the WYSIWYG mode
- Click the Upload media button
in the toolbar - Documents: doc, docx, odf, odg, odp, ods, odt, pps, ppt, pptx, sxw, xls, xlsx, pdf
- Images: gif, jpeg, jpg, owl, owl, png, rar, zip
- Audio: ac3, mp3, ogg
- Video: avi, mov, mpeg, mpg, wmv
- Click the Browse button
- Choose the media file you wish to upload from your local file system.
- You may even add some "Meta information" to the file you are uploading. Do this by clicking the plus button which will open the "Meta information" box which is usually collapsed.
- Check whether an entry has been made in the Uploaded by field. If not, add your name.
- Add the name of the person or company who holds the rights to this file optionally
- Enter a short description of this file optionally
- Enter additional related articles. These are the articles where the file shall be attached.
- Finally click Upload file and save the metadata

The Source filename, Destination filename and Creation date fields will be filled in automatically.

Successful upload of a media file is accompanied by the following window:
The file is placed in the WYSIWYG editor. Now you may now go on with wordprocessing.
Use files and file description pages
Once you have uploaded a file, you may use it in an article using the Insert/Edit image[[Image:example.png]].
Your uploaded file will be allocated to its unique 'File Description Page' in the corresponding namespace. Following namespaces are available:

You can edit this pages and thereby provide more information about the file. For example, many wiki projects are quite sensitive to copyright restrictions. It is for this reason that you need explain where you got the file from and what its copyright status is on the description page. Additional useful descriptive notes may also be added here.
List files in the wiki
There are a number 'Special Pages' which help you view and manage the uploaded files. Just go to the Special Pages pane where you will see the following links:
- Gallery of new images - This will display the images that have just been created. Indeed, if you just uploaded a file you will see it here.
- File list This will display a list of all the uploaded files.
- Unused images This helps you keep track on redundant files. These files might be unnecessary.
Insert image with the WYSWYG editor
- Create a new page or edit an existing one in the WYSIWYG mode.
- Click Insert/Edit image
button in the toolbar. - Enter the name of the image file as it was saved in your Wiki.
- If you wish to embed the image as a thumbnail, write a brief description in the Caption textfield and select Thumbnail in the dropdownlist Special Type
- You can also make modifications in your image:
- Specify the type using Special Type dropdownlist: Thumbnail, Frame or Border (see example below)
- Adjust position using Align dropdownlist: Right, Left, Center
- Change image size using Width and Height textfield in pixel
- Click OK.
- Click Save page when you have completed your edits.
Pop-up window called "Image Properties" appears:
Automatic search feature will help you to filter your image.
