Session 1: Using SMW+ for project management

This session gives an introduction into common project management challenges when setting up a typical project and explains how employing SMW+ reduces the risk of a bad project start.

We cover the following SMW+ features:

  • Setting up a project with the pre-configured data model
  • Inviting project members to work in the project
  • Rich text editing capabilities for creating appealing and informative wiki-articles
  • Semantic tagging of richt text to formalise knowledge step-by-step

Session 3: Content management features of SMW+

This session guides you through the various features to enter and to publish rich text in wiki articles, how to upload and tag documents and files. Further

you will learn how to efficiently search for articles using the powerful search engine and how to get notified for changes in articles.

We cover:

  • (short) introduction to SMW+

Session 4: Basic semantic features of SMW+

Unlike traditional wiki engines, SMW+ allows your user community to adjust the data model as they are using it. Alongside with the semantic tagging and query capabilities, this feature turns your wiki from a text vault to a readable knowledge base. In this section you will see how to exploit the semantic capabilities to improve the efficiency of your community.

We will cover:

  • Entering freehand annotations with the advanced annotation mode (example: risks)
  • Entering annotations with the semantic toolbar
  • Populating an article with a risk inventory (WYSIWYG, QI)
  • (short) recap

Session 5: Including external data coming from web services into articles

Deploying SMW+ in a corporate environment requires attaching external data sources to provide the user community with uptodate data. We present here how to easily attach web services to an SMW+ installation and how your community can collaborate on the provided data.

We will cover:

  • Create and register a simple webservice (example: weather forecast)
  • How to use the webservice in an article
  • Create and register a complex webservice (example: bugzilla)
  • How to use the webservice in an article
  • (short) recap

Session 6: Importing external data and generating wiki articles from data

When introducing SMW+ to a corporate community then legacy data can be easily imported and used to generate article for re-use in the new working environment (for example vocabularies or taxonomies). In this session we are demonstrating how to easily prepare a data source and how to migrate it into SMW+.

We will cover:

  • prepare a csv file for import into SMW+, map the columns to an ontology, run the import
  • re-using the imported articles in the workflow
  • (short) recap

Session 7: Maintaining the knowledgebase sitting in SMW+

A community using SMW+ is generating a readable knowledge base. To gradually increase the quality of the knowledge base SMW+ provides various means which are demonstrated in this session.

We will cover:

  • inspecting the predefined ontology with the ontology browser
  • add categories, properties with the ontology browser
  • assign categories, properties to a wiki section
  • check the knowledge base with gardening bots

Session 8: Advanced semantic features in SMW+ (a.k.a. how to use a reasoning engine)

SMW+ is a full fletched collaborative knowledge management system providing state-of-the-art technology and standards. We present here how to use this technology for advanced semantic tagging (like symmetric, inverse and transitive relationships) and how to use SMW+' reasoning engine for exploiting this tags for the benefit of your community.

We cover:

  • Types of semantic relations (inverse, symmetric, transitive) and category hierarchies
  • Basic ontology modeling techniques
  • Advanced semantic tagging with the semantic toolbar
  • Formulating advanced queries to exploit such advanced semantic tags

Needs of a community towards their tools are changing as they are adjusting their daily work routine to the needs of the market. You will learn here how easy it is for your user group to adjust the data model while they are using it and to create templates and forms for appealing wiki-articles and easy data-entry.

We cover:

  • Adjusting the data model with the ontology browser and semantic toolbar
